Position Job Descriptions

President Elect

Will act as an aid to the President, perform duties in their absence, and prepare for position as President the following year. Additional duties of the President Elect include: assisting in the duties of the President when appropriate, attending all OPAPO meetings, assisting in the oversight of other council positions. In the event that the President cannot finish his/her term, the President Elect will take over the duties of the President. (Effort: year-round, time varies depending on role. Serves one year, then moves into the position of President the following school  year.)

Treasurer

Be responsible for and have custody of all funds, make disbursements as properly authorized, be present at all OPAPO events where money will be collected, assure that OPAPO policies and best practices are followed with regards to funds, prepare financial reports for each meeting and as needed, prepare the books for an annual audit. (Effort: 4-5 hours per month,
average.)

Secretary

Keep the minutes of all meetings, prepare correspondence and perform all other duties assigned, maintain master documents, help recruit committee chairpersons for all vacant standing committees of the board, keep the calendar of events for OPAPO. (Effort: 3-4 hours per month, includes attending meeting and typing up minutes.)

Fundraising Coordinator

Coordinate OPAPO’s major fundraising activities. OPAPO holds one carnival in the fall and a spring fundraiser. Other small programs include Box Tops. (Effort: carnival takes 12-14 hours, spring fundraiser takes 3-5 hours; other OPAPO Council members will assist.) Parent Involvement Chair – Coordinate volunteers for OPAPO events and school activities. Collect list of general volunteers at beginning of year and for special events. Assure that volunteer data is recorded and available to both the Council and teachers. Work with teachers, staff, and leaders of committees to assure volunteers are recruited for programs. Keep ongoing dialogue with Parent Members about class and grade activities. (Effort: 3 hours per month, ongoing, year round. Involvement peaks with a few big events; could range from 1 to 8 hours per month during major events.)

Public Relations Chair

Promote positive information to the community about the school, its students, and OPAPO. Advertise related activities and programs in order to heighten community awareness. Many tasks (like notices to newspaper) can be accomplished via email. (Effort: 1-2 hours per month, year-round.)

 Parent Members

Attend monthly meetings, add input, and assist with all special events
