I graduated from Marquette University located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I was hired by Milwaukee Public Schools after graduation and taught two years. After living through six Milwaukee winters and the “lake” effect, I moved to Brevard County on the east coast of Florida. I was hired as a librarian and then moved into the classroom at Gemini Elementary in Melbourne Beach. I taught at Gemini for six years. I met my future husband in Melbourne Beach and started on my master’s degree in elementary education with an emphasis in reading at the University of Central Florida.
My ever changing path took me to Ft. Myers, Florida, where both my boys were born. From here we moved to Vienna, Virginia, and then to Burlington, Vermont.
In Vermont I was hired as an assistant principal at Winooski Middle/High School. During the two years, I organized the Career Education Program and was instrumental in developing a framework for all social agencies to work collaboratively with our school and with each other for the benefit of our students. Winooski is a district one mile square and, at that time, faced the challenge of Vietnamese refugee relocation to this small, blue-collar, textile-mill community.
One more move was in my future. Our family relocated to Ogden in 1993. I was hired by St. Joseph’s Elementary as an assistant principal and as a reading teacher. I worked in this capacity for three years. During this time I attended the University of Utah and earned my Administrative credential. Ogden School District hired me as a fifth grade teacher for one year and then appointed me as principal of Lincoln Elementary School. I held this position for five years.
I was approached by a management company, Academica West, at the end of my fifth year at Lincoln to interview for my present position. I did and I was hired.
Working as a charter school principal is rewarding, fulfilling, and one of the hardest jobs I have ever held. But, I still make time for my hobbies of walking my golden retriever, Chelsea, reading, and working in my garden. Ron and I consider Ogden HOME.
